HCM City supports Vientiane, Phnom Penh in COVID-19 fight
Ho Chi Minh City has offered Vientiane and Phnom Penh 50,000 USD each to support the two capital cities of Laos and Cambodia in overcoming the hard time due to impacts of COVID-19 pandemic.

Chairman of the Ho ChiMinh City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong symbolically handed over the assistance to the Consul Generals of Laos and Cambodiain the city following an online working session among him and Vientiane’s Mayor AtsaphangthongSiphandone and Phnom Penh’s Governor Khuong Sreng on May 7.
At theworking session, the HCM City leader underlined that amid the complicatedCOVID-19 pandemic, the city has kept a close watch on the situation in Vientianeand Phnom Penh and helped ease the difficulties facing the two cities due tothe pandemic.
The PartyOrganisation, administration and people of HCM City have supported Vientianeand Phnom Penh and other localities of Laos and Cambodia by providing medicalsupplies to them, he noted, adding that the assistance shows the sentiments ofVietnam and HCM City in particular towards Laos and Cambodia.
Phongaffirmed that the city always attaches great importance to and works hard tofoster relations with Laos and Cambodia as well as their capital cities.
He saidthat he hopes the pandemic will be thoroughly controlled so that both sides canrecover trade ties, and resume exchange and cooperation.
For hispart, Atsaphangthong Siphandone expressed a hope that the three countries willstrengthen their partnership in controlling the pandemic, stressing that close collaborationamong Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam is a significant factor to the success of theCOVID-19 fight in each country, creating an important foundation for them toboost socio-economic development and ensuring the stability, prosperity in thewhole region.
Meanwhile,Khuong Sreng lauded the initiative of HCM City to hold the online workingsession, which manifests the joint efforts and determination in COVID-19prevention and control.
The PhnomPenh leader said that Cambodia in general and Phnom Penh in particular isapplying drastic measures to prevent the spreading of the pandemic./.
The Vietnamese association in Laos’ Oudomsay province donated a total of 135 million LAK (14,363 USD) worth of COVID-19 relief supplies and cash on April 29 to help local authorities fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vietnam’s assistance for Laos in the COVID-19 combat was handed over at a ceremony held at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane capital city on May 4 morning.
The Mekong Delta province of Long An on May 5 presented medical supplies worth 150 million VND (6,500 USD) to Cambodia’s Svay Rieng and Prey Veng provinces to support their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
