HCM City (VNA) 🔥– The Centre for Women and Children Empowerment (CSWC) and Planete Enfants & Developpement (PE&D) on March 26 concluded the 2022-2024 project on building a child trafficking prevention support system in central and southern Vietnam.

Nguyen Minh Nhut, Deputy Head of the Department of Socio-Cultural Affairs of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council, emphasised the project’s significance in protecting children and creating a self-sustaining support system. The city always supports domestic and international organisations working on child welfare, particularly for vulnerable groups. HCM City has implemented policies to safeguard children, including Resolution 35/2023/NQ-HDND, which provides monthly financial aid, health insurance, and educational support for orphans and disadvantaged children, he added.
PE&D’s Vietnam Country Representative Julia Levivier highlighted the project’s family-centered approach, helping households access available services. It has strengthened the capacity of social workers and improved economic and social reintegration for child victims of trafficking and exploitation. However, challenges remain, such as limited resources and difficulties in identifying trafficking victims under Europ's criteria.
A representative of the consultant group, Nguyen Thi Van noted the project’s role in preventing child re-trafficking and exploitation by addressing vulnerabilities and enhancing community awareness. She recommended integrating successful project practices into local policies and strengthening coordination among stakeholders. The initiative aligns with Vietnam’s National Action Programme on Human Trafficking Prevention (2021-2025) and has helped bridge gaps in child protection by enhancing the capacity of social workers and community support staff./.
