HCM City: Nearly 80% of population join health insurance

More than 6.5 million time-people in HCM City received medical checks-up and treatment using health insurance in the first half of 2017, reported the city’s Social Insurance Agency on June 21.

Hanoi (VNA) – More than 6.5 million time-people inHCM City received medical check-ups and treatment using health insurance in thefirst half of 2017, reported the city’s Social Insurance Agency on June 21.

The city’s social insurance fund paid over 4.6 trillionVND (202.4 million USD) for these medical services during the period.

HCM City has about 6.5 million health insurance holders,equivalent to 79.2 percent of its total population.

The number of people without health insurance wasestimated at around 1.7 million, most of them were unemployed, those working underless-than-3-month contracts, or students.

The municipal Social Insurance Agency aims to have anadditional 123,000 people joining the health insurance scheme from now to theend of this year.

By December 31, 2016, 81.7 percent of Vietnam’s population or about75.9 million people have joined health insurance.

The country is pushing forward with administrative reformsand IT application in 2017 to develop a modern, professional and effectivesocial insurance system.-VNA
