Ho Chi Minh City has been ranked among the 20 most dynamic citiesglobally by US-based financial and professional services firm Jones LangLaSalle (JLL).

The firm revealed the list through its City Momentum Index (CMI) paper in late January.

Thisis JLL's second annual CMI, which captures the dynamics of a city'sreal-estate market - its rates of construction and absorption, pricemovement and the attraction of a city's built environment forcross-border capital.

The CMI selected HCM City as one among sixnew cities, including Sydney and Melbourne, to figure in the top 20. Thecity's construction levels are high, although growth rates areexaggerated by the small size of the existing commercial real-estatemarket.

Meanwhile, London has topped the CMI list because of itsrobust economic fundamentals, further boosted by large volumes ofcross-border real-estate investment and a positive outlook forcommercial property prices. San Jose or Silicon Valley, which is theglobal hub of the high-tech venture capital industry, is ranked secondand is followed by Beijing.

Despite an economic slowdown, Chinais still home to seven of the world's 20 most dynamic cities, includingShanghai and Wuhan in the fifth and eighth positions, respectively.

TheCMI also pointed out that the technology sector continues to be a majordriver of city momentum across the globe as technology giants andstart-ups invest in new technologies and infrastructure and generatejobs. Several of the world's technology-rich cities appear in the Top20, including Boston, San Francisco and Bangalore.

The index alsoassessed 120 cities with a weighted overall score, based on 37variables, including short-term socio-economic momentum variables,short-term commercial real-estate momentum variables and longer termvariables.

More than 412,000 foreigners visited HCM City inJanuary, a year-on-year increase of 8 percent, according to figuresreleased by the municipal People's Committee.

Last year, the cityreceived a total of 4.4 million foreign visitors, accounting for 53percent of the number of international visitors to Vietnam.

Totalrevenue of the city's tourism sector, including revenue of travelagencies and the hospitality industry, was estimated at 86 trillion VND(4.04 billion USD), representing 34 percent of Vietnam's tourism sectorlast year.

To further sustainable development of the tourismindustry, HCM City has signed regional alliances with neighbouringprovinces and countries and diversified tourist services.

In addition, it has launched the programme "The city's tourism sector has responsibility for the environment".

Thecity has also planned more cultural and entertainment activities toenhance its regional reputation as a major tourism destination.

Cityauthorities will also launch tourism promotions and work withlocalities in Vietnam and countries in the region to enhance tourismcooperation.

The promotions include improvements of periodiccultural and tourist events, such as International Tourism Expo 2015,annual tourist festivals, and the launch of inland waterway tours andart shows for tourists.
