Vientiane (VNA) - Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Phan Van Mai paid a courtesy visit to Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, and had talks with Mayor of Vientiane Atsaphangthong Siphandone on April 8 as part of his ongoing working visit to Laos.
The Lao PM highlighted the significance of the HCM City delegation’s visit, and thanked the Vietnamese locality for working closely with many localities of Laos, affirming that the cooperation has contributed to deepening the special solidarity relationship between Vietnam and Laos.
For his part, Mai expressed the delight at the fruitful development of the Vietnam - Laos relations, and cooperation between HCM City and Lao localities in particular, saying that these relations are growing unceasingly in all channels and fields.
He revealed that during this trip, he will visit Vientiane, and Champasak and Savannakhet provinces of Laos to evaluate ongoing cooperation activities, as well as discuss future cooperation plans.
HCM City is willing to help Lao localities to reach greater development achievements, Mai said, expressing the hope that the two sides will continue to maintain the exchange of delegations; strengthen economic - trade - tourism cooperation programme, thus further strengthening the bilateral relations.
On the occasion of the Lao traditional New Year Boun Pimai, the HCM official sent his best wishes to the Lao PM, and the Party, authorities and people of Laos.
Previously, the HCM City delegation held talks with a delegation of Vientiane led by Mayor Siphandone, and attended a ceremony to inaugurate an online meeting room project which was funded by the HCM City People’s Committee.
At the talks, the two sides agreed to strengthen exchange of delegations; accelerate the implementation of cooperation commitments through building specific, feasible and practical programmes; enhance trade, investment and tourism cooperation; and create favourable conditions for investment and business projects of each other.
Ho Chi Minh City will continue to provide scholarships of undergraduate, master's and vocational training for Laos, implement the project "Vietnamese family with Lao students"; share experience with and help improve professional capacity of departments and sectors of Vientiane in the fields of agriculture, e-government, tax and finance./.
Ho Chi Minh City always treasures the twining relations with Vientiane, as well as the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos as a whole, an official of the city said.
