Ho Chi Minh City (VNA)𒐪 – Secretary of Ho Chi MinhCity Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen on October 17 morning received Minister ofExternal Affairs of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar who is on a working visit to the city.

He said that over the past 50 years, despite the volatile andcomplex world situation, the traditional friendship relations between Vietnamand India founded by President Ho Chi Minh and Indian Prime MinisterJawaharlal Nehru and nurtured by generations of leaders and people of the twocountries have been continuously consolidated and developed.

💃 The official also congratulated the guest on the outcomes of the 18thmeeting of the Vietnam-India Joint Committee for Economic, Trade, Science andTechnology Cooperation that he co-chaired in Hanoi on October 16.

He said the city has been implementingcooperative activities with India and will strive to activelycontribute to the early realisation of the target of 20 billion USD intwo-way trade turnover between Vietnam and India that the joint committee just approved. Over the last few years, therelationship between the city and India has continuously been strengthened anddeveloped in the fields of trade cooperation, investment, and people-to-peopleexchanges, he said, adding however that room remains for cooperation with Indianpartners.

The official expressed his hope that India will continue to facilitate businessesfrom both sides to seek opportunities and promote cooperation in areaslike trade, tourism, science - technology, and education.

𓂃 For his part, the Indian ministe said India and Vietnam are both trying to overcomedifficulties and challenges but share the desire to promote their cooperativerelationship and ensure peace and stability in the region.

He spoke highly of Ho Chi Minh City'seconomic development and its role in promoting tourism, trade and investmentcooperation between the two countries. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar thanked the city for supporting andfacilitating the activities of the Indian Consulate General in the city, saying he hopes India and the city will further promoteeconomic, trade and investment, especially strengthen thecooperative relationship between businesses of both sides. He said that many Indian businesses want to learn about and seekcooperation opportunities in fields such as pharmaceuticals and infrastructureconstruction./.
