HCM City (VNA) – As many as 778students with outstanding performance in the 2017 - 2018 academic school yearin Ho Chi Minh City were honoured in a ceremony held on July 18.
Of the total, 14 students won internationalawards, 167 obtained high prizes at competitions of national level while 597others were awardees at city-level contests.
Lauding the results of the city’s educationand training sector in the previous school year, Vice Chairwoman of themunicipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thu asked the sector to raise educationquality in suburban areas, contributing to creating high-quality humanresources for the city’s development.
The municipal education sector has paidattention to training outstanding students and qualified personnel for theindustrialisation and modernisation of the country and the building of smartcity in particular.
The municipal Department of Education andTraining has sought approval from the People’s Committee for piloting a “smartschools” programme based extensively on IT use in management and communicationbetween schools and students’ families. The programme is one of the steps inpreparing for a smart city by 2020.
ꦚ In the 2017-2018 school year, there were5,612 students in the city earning high prizes in international-, national- andmunicipal-level competitions. More than 197,400 children won the title ofexcellent students at all levels.-VNA
“We are making efforts to give ethnic minority students bigger scholarships so they can cover living expense, study well and become good citizens,” said President of Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund.
The Vietnam Youth Federation and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) Central Committee have granted scholarships to three Vietnamese students with excellent start-up ideas to join the “Smart Cities” course in Israel.
Central Da Nang city on June 23 presented scholarships to over 200 students who are children of local workers and civil servants to encourage them to overcome disadvantages to obtain better academic results.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government. It has fulfilled five specific objectives and five five-year goals, and met nine out of 12 indicators related to addressing basic social service shortages.
