HCM City hails EU's substantial contributions to local development
Ho Chi Minh City always appreciates and highly values the substantial contributions of EU countries to its development process, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Duong Anh Duc remarked at the celebration of Europe Day 2024 held by the EU Delegation to Vietnam on May 16 evening.

HCM City (VNA) - Ho Chi Minh City always appreciates and highly values the substantial contributions of EU countries to its development process, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Duong Anh Duc remarked at the celebration of Europe Day 2024 held by the EU Delegation to Vietnam on May 16 evening.
In his speech, Duc said the southern metropolis looks forward to favourable conditions conducive to its effective utilisation of funding sources from the bloc’s Global Gateway Strategy and Horizon Europe Programme to further strengthen economic relations with the EU and jointly achieve sustainable development goals.
He also pledged commitments to ensuring stable socio-political environments, protecting the rights and legitimate interests of investors, and facilitating long-term and effective operations of European businesses in the city.
EU Ambassador to Vietnam Julien Guerrier said the Vietnam-EU relationship is evidence of peaceful cooperation leading to a bright future. Over more than three decades, they have worked together and achieved numerous accomplishments.
Guerrier announced that the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), coordinated by the EU and the UK, is ready to provide around 15 billion EUR to support climate change mitigation in Vietnam.

The “Europe Days 2013 in Vietnam” programme, the ninth of its kind held in the country, kicked off on May 9 with a concert of the Munich Chamber Choir and Vietnamese musicians at Hanoi Opera House.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son has expressed Vietnam's readiness to collaborate closely with the EU in building an exemplary cooperation model for green transformation, aiming to support developing nations, including Vietnam, in bridging gaps in finance, technology and human resources training.
Stronger efforts and determination are required to achieve and surpass the set targets, especially in the eradication of makeshift and dilapidated houses nationwide, the acceleration of public investment disbursement, and the implementation of nationally important transport projects, PM Pham Minh Chinh noted.

The show, together with a grand parade to be held silmutaneously at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, the National Day, and the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).
In particular, in April 2023, the two sides successfully carried out a joint operation that dismantled a major organised, transnational drug trafficking ring involving both Vietnamese and Cambodian suspects.
