HCM City fosters trade, cultural cooperation with UK

HCM City (VNA) –🔴 Ho Chi Minh City wishes to foster cultural exchanges with UK localitiesto deepen mutual understanding and boost friendship between people of the cityand the UK, said Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen ThanhPhong.
The official madethe statement on November 8 while receiving the British Prime Minister’s TradeEnvoy to Vietnam Ed Vaizey, who was on a working visit to the city. He lauded thedevelopment of trade relations between HCM City and the UK over the recent yearsand said the UK is an important trade partner and a major investor of HCM City. The two sides have deployedcooperation in health and education as well as building smart urban areas andsmart traffic management, Phong stressed, adding that HCM City has alsoimproved its investment climate and created favourable conditions for foreigninvestors, including businesses from the UK. Phong told his guestthat the city wants to strengthen ties with UK firms in urban waste treatment, smartcity building and tertiary education. For his part, EdVaizey stated the UK has paid heed to cooperation with HCM City, especially infields of the city’s concern like metros, solutions to urban pollution and becominga smart city. He noted that HCMCity and the UK hold great cooperation potentials in education, tourism andcultural exchange. The UK is willing to support HCM City to promote the culturalindustry as well as cultural activities between people of the city and UKlocalities, the trade envoy said.-VNA
Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan hosted a reception on September 19 for UK Ambassador to Vietnam Giles Lever, who noted British firms’ intention to expand operations in the city.
A workshop and business networking programme was recently held in Auckland city of New Zealand to promote Ho Chi Minh City’s investment, trade and tourism.
HCM City wants to work with Kirloskar Brothers Limited from India in fields of mutual concern, especially in urban flood control and solutions to saltwater intrusion.
Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem had a meeting on November 8 with Masuda Tetsuya, General Director of Japan’s education group Soshi, who said his firm wants to set up an international university in the Vietnamese city.
Stronger efforts and determination are required to achieve and surpass the set targets, especially in the eradication of makeshift and dilapidated houses nationwide, the acceleration of public investment disbursement, and the implementation of nationally important transport projects, PM Pham Minh Chinh noted.
The trip will be made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President and CEO Børge Brende, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Long spoke highly of the dynamic, positive, and comprehensive development of Vietnam – Russia relations in recent years. He affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State place great importance on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia in a substantive and effective manner, in line with the development needs of both nations.

The show, together with a grand parade to be held silmutaneously at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, the National Day, and the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).
In particular, in April 2023, the two sides successfully carried out a joint operation that dismantled a major organised, transnational drug trafficking ring involving both Vietnamese and Cambodian suspects.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Israel is closely coordinating with relevant local agencies to stay informed and provide the utmost support possible for Vietnamese nationals.
