HCM City: Festival honouring traditional dress to begin this month
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism on March 1 announced the 8th municipal ao dai (traditional long dress) festival will kick off on March 5 and last until April 15.

HCM City (VNA) – The Ho Chi Minh City Department ofTourism on March 1 announced the 8th municipal ao dai (traditionallong dress) festival will kick off on March 5 and last until April 15.
The festival will introduce the beauty and convenience of ao dai, making it a familiar garment of people in contribution to preserving thenation’s cultural identity and promoting the image of the country and Vietnamesepeople.
Le Truong Hien Hoa, vice director of the department, saidthe event, taking place in the context of socio-economic recovery in a newnormal condition, will show domestic and international tourists a dynamic, modern,interesting and safe HCM City.
The opening ceremony on March 5 will treat the public to adisplay of more than 300 ao dai models from 15 outstanding collections byrenowned local designers.
The festival is planned to feature a peace demonstration ofover 2,000 people wearing the dress, an art programme, an exhibition, and a fashiondesign contest, among others.
It will be accompanied by a series of community-basedactivities, including a campaign calling for public servants, students, andemployees in the tourism-service sector to wear the traditional attire, andlocal tourism products and promotion events in response to the festival.
On the occasion, the Southern Women's Museum in the cityconvened an exhibition space on March 1. It is showcasing ao dai worn byVietnamese women in the two resistance wars against the French colonialists andthe American imperialists as well as more than 60 documentary photos of thedress from the early 19th century to present./.
The 5th Ao Dai festival in Ho Chi Minh City is taking place with a wide range of activities, including ao dai-related shows, a mass performance with the participation of 3,000 people.
A festival aiming to honour Ao Dai, Vietnam’s traditional dress, wrapped up on March 17 after two weeks running in Ho Chi Minh City, attracting much attention from domestic and foreign visitors.
The seventh Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai (traditional long dress) Festival kicked off on October 11 at the Vietnam History Museum in district 1, with many excellent collections of famous designers on show.
Stories about heritages in the northern province of Quang Ninh were told through a show of 17 collections of Ao dai (traditional Vietnamese long dress) at Quang Ninh 2020 Ao dai festival organised in Cam Pha city on December 26.

The exhibition showcases more than 100 valuable documents and artifacts, divided into two main parts: “Journalist Nguyen Ai Quoc – Ho Chi Minh” and “President Ho Chi Minh – Founder and Mentor of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.” This is an opportunity to recall the late leader’s journalism journey and affirm his exceptional role in founding and guiding the revolutionary press in Vietnam.
For the first time, the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) has granted Vietnam hosting rights for the two championships, including the Asian women’s solo category, which debuts this year as an officially recognised event.

For the first time, Vietnamese audiences will have the opportunity to experience the ballet masterpiece "Don Quixote" in its original version by renowned choreographer Marius Petipa.

Creative cultural festivals are fast emerging as a new catalyst for tourism development in Vietnam, as localities increasingly invest in these vibrant events on a more systematic and larger scale.
This marks the first time Vietnam has hosted a continental-level Muay event which will feature competitions across 28 weight categories in combat and eight performance categories.
