Once a war-torn city, Hanoi has transformed into a hub of dynamic growth and development. The capital's economy consistently achieves strong growth rates, contributing 16% to the national GDP and 19% to the overall state budget.

Hanoi earned 7.16 billion USD from exports in the first half of 2021, up 4.5 percent year on year, the municipal Statistics Office estimated.

The COVID-19 pandemic is causing considerable impact on Hanoi’s economy, but the capital city still maintains its growth target of 7.51 percent for this year.

Hanoi aims at an economic growth rate of 7.6 – 8 percent for the latter half of 2019 in an effort to realise targets and tasks set for the whole year.

Hanoi recorded positive economic figures in the first quarter of 2019, making the capital city one of the top 10 localities with the best economic governance quality, according to Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu.
