Hanoi to mark 20th anniversary of City for Peace recognition

Hanoi (VNA) -
A meeting to mark the 20th anniversary of Hanoi’s recognitionas ‘City For Peace’ (July 16, 1999-2019) will be held on July 13 at the Ly ThaiTo Park besides Hoan Kiem lake in the heart of capital city.

On the occasion, a walk for peace will take place with the participation of upto 5,000 people along with a sport performance of the Hanoi Association of the Elderly.

In addition, a wide variety of meaningful activities will take place on theoccasion. Notably, a peace culture festival featuring two performances, themed‘I love Hanoi’ and ‘Lighting peace’, is expected to delight audiences on July13-14.

International organisations and embassies will introduce their culturalidentities and tourism products at an event entitled ‘Friendship Village’ in LeThach street.

Visitors to the capital will also be introduced to Vietnam’s UNESCO recognisedintangible cultural heritages.

Photo exhibitions honouring “civilised and elegant Hanoians” as well as thecapital city’s efforts towards peace will open from July to September,respectively. Meanwhile a peaceful and friendship melody festival, themed‘Echoes of the peaceful city’ will be held in October.

To mark the 20th anniversary, Hanoi has launched writing and painting conteston the capital city.

In addition, workshops, communications activities and book festivals on Hanoiand its integration and development, as well as socio-economic achievementswill be held on the occasion.

In 1999, Hanoi was among five cities in fivecontinents presented with the “City for Peace” award by the UNESCO to recogniseits contributions to the struggle for peace as well as its development thatmeet the organisation’s standards of equality in the community, the urbanconstruction, living environment protection, culture and education promotion,and care for young generations. - VNA

🅠 Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee
