Hanoi (VNA) – The Hanoi Pe🍌ople’s Committee has recently called on municipal agencies to increase the installation of LED (light-emitting diode) lighting products in public lighting system in the locality with the aim to save energy.

Accordingly, the use of LED bulbs will be applied in public works, roads and urban areas.
The committee also asked the municipal districts, the Department of Construction, and the Department of Transportation to prioritise using LED products to replace the downgraded street lighting systems. The relevant agencies are requested not to utilise incandescent and halogen lamps in public lighting systems. The Department of Construction is asked to take necessary measures to raise the efficiency of public lighting works.
The city pays 260 billion VND (11.66 million USD) to light the streets each year. The LED lights are expected to reduce spending to 90-120 billion VND (4-5.38 million USD). In 2015, Hanoi saved about 325 million kWh of electricity thanks to the National Target Programme on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy. The city targets to cut its energy consumption by 2-3 percent this year compared to the demand forecast, in pursuit of the goal of decreasing the energy-to-GDP elasticity to 0.95 percent by 2020 from 1.48 percent last year.-VNA
