A view of Hoan Kiem Lake (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) - The capitalcity’s Hoan Kiem Lake is being dredged and cleaned from now to the end of the year,according to the Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Company Ltd.
Under the plan, approved recently by themunicipal People’s Committee, the company will dredge some 57,400cu.m of mudfrom the lake and take measures to clear all waste and rubbish from the lake.
The work will be carried out from 11pm to5am from Monday to Thursday and from 12pm to 5am from Friday to Sunday to avoidaffecting other daily activities.
The plan is estimated to cost 30 billion VND(1.33 million USD) from the city’s budget.
During the cleaning process, the companywill take measures to prevent noise and ensure labour safety and clean workingareas.
The company will also work with scientistsand experts to implement measures to protect all aquatic animals and plants inthe lake during the cleaning process.
The lake is severely polluted and has lostthe ability to revive itself, threatening living creatures in it, according tothe company.
Covering some 12ha, Hoan Kiem Lake (alsoknown as Returned Sword Lake) is located at the centre of the capital. Apartfrom its spiritual and cultural values, it is considered a scenic venue and ahub for some weekend relaxation, away from the chaos and bustle of the city.-VNA
