Hanoi (VNA) – Hanoi has set 24 goals for 2019, with one in budget collection andspending, 22 in socio-economic development and the last in personnel work.

The targets wereannounced the launching during a meeting on December 10 to summarise theemulation movement of 2018 and start socio-economic plan for 2019.

Next year, the capitalcity aims to record at least 8.7 percent in the growth of the gross regional domesticproduct (GRDP), improve the local investment and business environment in linewith economic restructuring, and build city planning for the 2020-2030 period.

It will work topreserve and promote cultural values and ensure social security, whilecontinuing efforts in administrative reform, enhancing the city’s ProvincialCompetitiveness Index (PCI) and ProvincialGovernance and Public Administration Performance Index (PAPI), and stepping upthe building of smart city.

According to themunicipal People’s Committee, all of the 20 socio-economic goals of the city in2018 have been fulfilled, with eight of them surpassed.

Hanoi’s exportrevenue has grown 21.6 percent, while the rate of malnutrition children underfive years old has been reduced by 0.3 percent, that of trained labourersraised to 63.18 percent, and 90 more public schools reach national standards.

Up to 55.5 percentof the rural population has enjoyed access to clean water, while 30 morecommunes have been recognised as new-style rural areas. The city’s percentageof poor households has been reduced by 0.5 percent compared to 2017, and thecoverage of social insurance increased to 86.5 percent.

In 2018, Hanoi’sGRDP growth is projected to hit 8.56 percent or 7.37 percent following the newcalculation method, the committee reported.

In this year, thecity is likely to complete 17 targets for the 2016-2020 period.

At the same time,the committee also pointed to a number of problems facing the city, including trafficjam, flooding, violations in construction, and low PAPI ranking.

At the meeting,Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung launched a patrioticemulation movement for 2019 among the Party organisation, administration andlocals of the capital city, with an aim to complete and surpass all the socio-economictargets for the whole year.-VNA
