Hanoi (VNA) – Hanoi will prioritise theuse of Japanese technology in waste treatment projects in the future, saidChairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung at a receptionfor Japanese Vice Minister of the Environment Takaaki Katsumata in Hanoi onJanuary 10.
Chung said the treatment of waste and sewage,and reduction in environmental pollution are major challenges that the city isfocusing its efforts on.
Therefore, the city hopes to receive more activeassistance from the Japanese Ministry of Environment in the field, he said,adding that Hanoi is willing to partner with the Japanese side to addressrelevant problems.
For his part, Takaaki Katsumata said hisministry will coordinate with Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources andEnvironment to organise the Vietnam-Japan Environmental Week.
A number of workshops and seminars will be held duringthe week to introduce Japan’s fuel technology in Vietnam as well as promoteinvestment and connect businesses of countries that are interested inenvironmental issues, he added.
The vice minister added that within the framework of the environmental week, the twosides will set up a committee responsible for waste treatment and management.
There will also be programmes introducingbilateral cooperation activities, he said.
Chairman Chung said Hanoi put into operation Vietnam’sfirst waste-to-energy facility in Nam Son Waste Treatment Complex, Soc Sondistrict, in May 2017.
The factory applies Japan’s most advancedtechnology with a waste treatment capacity of 75 tonnes per day. –VNA
