Hanoi (VNA) – Hanoi will postpone the opening of a pedestrianstreet at Trinh Cong Son street near the West Lake until October 10, the anniversaryof the capital city’s liberation from French occupation, instead of theinitially planned August 19.
Tay Ho district authorities said the postponement aims to ensureconsensus among local residents and better preparations for the street’soperation.
The idea of turning the street into a pedestrian area with spacededicated to art performances and food stalls has received support from most of300 households living along the street. However, some are concerned about theplan to build permanent kiosks, saying they will block the walking path aroundthe West Lake. They proposed building mobile booths which can be dismantledwhen not in use.
The street will be open for pedestrians every Friday, Saturday andSunday from 6pm to 12am in summer and 5.30pm to 11pm in winter. On Sundays, thestreet will operate from 3pm to 10pm.
Visitors to the space will be able to enjoy modern and traditionalcultural and art activities and foods from Vietnam’s different regions, as wellas music, street festivals and other traditional festivals.
Currently, a pedestrian street operates in Hanoi’s Old Quarter andaround Hoan Kiem Lake on weekends.-VNA
