Hanoi (VNA) – A number of cultural activitiescelebrating the Lunar New Year festival (Tet) in Hanoi have been postponed inthe face of a new COVID-19 outbreak.
They include the inauguration of a community space in PhucTan ward of Hoan Kiem district, initially slated for January 31. This spacesurrounds an old 500m-long wall along the Red River that has been transformedinto an area for artworks made from recycled materials.
Another delayed event is a Tet market planned to be held inthe Duong Lam ancient village of Son Tay town on January 30. It was set to reenactactivities of a traditional Tet market, including making chung cakes and other traditionaldishes, folk games, and cultural activities.
A roundtable on the buffalo, the zodiac sign for 2021, inthe life of Vietnamese people was also cancelled. It was initially scheduled to take place inthe Old Quarter on January 30.
The opening ceremony of a flower market on the Phung Hungpedestrian street on late January 29 was also called off to prevent massgathering.
A number of Tet celebrations have been planned in Hanoi. However,due to complex developments of COVID-19, its organisers are also considering postponementand waiting for further directions from the city’s authorities./.
The northern province of Bac Ninh has decided to impose social distancing in Lam Thao commune of Luong Tai district for 21 days, starting on January 29, after a local resident was confirmed as a COVID-19 patient.
Hanoi will test all people who have returned from Quang Ninh province and Hai Duong’s Chi Linh city, which have been hit by the latest COVID-9 outbreaks, since January 14.
The town of Dong Trieu in northern Quang Ninh province will be subject to social distancing measures over the next 25 days, according to an official dispatch from the provincial People’s Committee on January 29.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has requested COVID-19-hit areas to cancel the organisation of festivals and cultural activities of mass gatherings in an effort to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
Religious establishments in Hai Duong province’s Chi Linh city and Quang Ninh province’s Dong Trieu township, where many COVID-19 cases were detected in the past few days , must cancel all religious activities with crowded gatherings, the Ministry of Home Affairs said in an official dispatch issued on January 29.
The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.
