Hanoi: New People’s Council opens first session, elects key positions

Hanoi (VNA) 🎃– The new People’s Council of Hanoi (15th tenure) convened the first session on June 14 to elect key officials who will lead the capital city from now to 2021.
Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc was re-elected as Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Council while Nguyen Duc Chung will continue as Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee for the 2016 – 2021 tenure.
Other positions in the council, the committee and the municipal People’s Court were also elected.
The 105 deputies to the 15th municipal People’s Council were chosen at the general election on May 22.
Speaking at the session, Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai said the tasks that the new People’s Council has to fulfill are very heavy, including how to successfully implement the resolution of the 16th congress of the city’s Party organisation.
The People’s Council must strive to perform well right from the beginning of the new tenure.
Meanwhile, the People’s Committee should be determined to address obstacles to development such as in investment and the business climate, administrative procedures, the provincial competitiveness index, and the public’s satisfaction with administrative agencies’ services, he added.-VNA

Describing the exhibition as a large-scaled, content-rich, and unprecedented event with high requirements and limited preparation time, PM Pham Minh Chinh urged all ministries, sectors, and localities to participate with the highest sense of responsibility, ensuring the exhibition is inclusive, objective, truthful, feasible, and impactful.
Vietnam’s attendance reaffirms its consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation and diversification, and comprehensive, intensive, extensive and effective international integration.

PM Pham Minh Chinh instructed chairpersons of the People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to strictly follow the Ministry of Finance's guidelines on handling public finances and budgets, with a focus on preventing wastefulness, misconduct, or corruption.
Knapper reaffirmed the US's commitment to supporting a strong, independent, prosperous and resilient Vietnam, while respecting each other’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, independence and political systems.
Vietnam is deeply concerned about the escalating and complex conflict in the Middle East, which poses a serious threat to the lives and safety of civilians, as well as to regional and global peace and stability.
