Hanoi marks Int’l Francophone Day

The VicePresident hailed what the French-speaking community has reaped over thepast time, especially its involvement in global efforts to realiseMillennium Development Goals, cope with climate change, reform the worldfinancial system, and promote diversity of cultures and languages.

Doan thanked the global community, especially Francophone membercountries, for electing Vietnam as a member of the United Nations HumanRights Council for the 2014-2016 tenure.

Secretary General ofthe International Francophone Organisation Abdou Diouf praised Vietnamfor successfully hosting the Hanoi summit, a milestone in the history ofthe Francophone bloc with the adoption of the Francophone Charter andthe election of the first Secretary General.

At the ceremony,Prof. Phan Huy Le and Asso.Prof. Dr Nguyen Ngoc Luu Ly were honoured fortheir contributions to the Francophone movement in Vietnam.-VNA

♊ Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.
