Hanoi leader lauds efficiency of Asia Foundation’s projects

Hanoi (VNA) – Chairman of the Hanoi People’s CommitteeNguyen Duc Chung lauded the operational efficiency of the Asia Foundation’sprojects in the capital city during his reception for its CountryRepresentative in Vietnam Michael DiGregorio on February 21.
The foundation’s urban agricultural development projects have contributed toimproving living standards of local people and ensuring social security in thecity, he said.
Suggesting the foundation expand these projects in terms of product, Chung emphasisedthat Hanoi hopes to cooperate with the foundation and welcomes investors inproduction and social welfare.
Hanoi always learns from experience and applies the best technologies inbuilding the smart city and e-authority, and improving people’s livingstandards, he said.
The city has made noted progress in food safety management and control, cleanvegetable growing and husbandry, he said, stressing that Hanoi is willing tocooperate with the Asia Foundation in developing urban agriculture and formingproduction-consumption chains.
Besides planting trees, Hanoi has set up air and water pollution monitoringstations and applied waste treatment technologies, Chung told his guest.
For his part, DiGregorio talked about the foundation’s strength and interest suchas financial support to low-income earners, air quality monitoring andassessment, urban agricultural development and clean vegetable supply.
Headquartered in San Francisco, the AsiaFoundation works through a network of offices in 18 Asian countries and in Washington, DC. Asa nonprofit international development organisation, it has committed toimproving lives across a dynamic and developing Asia.
Since its inception in Vietnam about 20 years ago, the foundation has launched23 programmes aiming to assist Vietnamese localities in various spheres.-VNA
The People’s Council of Hanoi met on March 22, emphasising upcoming elections for the National Assembly and People’s Council of the 2011-16 tenure as the key task of the entire political system.
The Hanoi economy is picking up steam in almost areas with its gross domestic product for this year estimated at 8.8 percent, still within the target of 8.5-9 percent.
Hanoi economy is expected to grow at 7.8 percent during the first half of this year - the fastest pace in four years, reported the Ha Noi Moi (New Hanoi) daily newspaper.
Hanoi drew 1.6 billion USD in newly-registered and additional capital from foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in the first five months of this year.

The trip will be made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President and CEO Børge Brende, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Long spoke highly of the dynamic, positive, and comprehensive development of Vietnam – Russia relations in recent years. He affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State place great importance on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia in a substantive and effective manner, in line with the development needs of both nations.
At the conference, participants reported that the Government has so far issued 28 decrees on the delegation of responsibilities and powers between the central Government and two-tier local administrations. Several localities have already piloted the new governance model.

Under the official dispatch signed on June 20, ministers, heads of ministerial-level agencies, and chairpersons of provincial and municipal People’s Committees are requested to concentrate efforts on implementing core measures to ensure the smooth operations of the new administrative framework.

Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien welcomed the proposals put forward by the US side and reiterated Vietnam’s request for consideration of key areas of interest, including reciprocal tariff policies and access for Vietnamese key export products to the US market.

The show, together with a grand parade to be held silmutaneously at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, the National Day, and the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).
In particular, in April 2023, the two sides successfully carried out a joint operation that dismantled a major organised, transnational drug trafficking ring involving both Vietnamese and Cambodian suspects.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Israel is closely coordinating with relevant local agencies to stay informed and provide the utmost support possible for Vietnamese nationals.
