Hanoi, Dominican Republic’s capital boast cooperation potential: official

Hanoi (VNA) – Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung highlightedthe potential for cooperation with Santo Domingo capital of the Dominican Republicwhile meeting the Caribbean country’s Ambassador to Vietnam Francisco Rodriguezon April 4.

Dunghailed the recent opening of the Dominican Republic's embassy in Hanoi as a demonstrationof the countries’ friendship and cooperation development.

Hegave a brief introduction of Hanoi, its achievements, and developmentorientations and held that the two countries’ capitals hold much cooperationpotential.

Theofficial said he hopes during Rodriguez’s term in Vietnam, the diplomat willact as a bridge helping foster relations between the two countries and the twocapital cities.

Expressinghis honour to serve as the first ambassador of the Dominican Republic toVietnam, Rodriguez described the opening of his country’s embassy in Hanoi as animportant milestone in bilateral relations, voicing his hope that the embassywill help connect major enterprises of Vietnam with the Dominican Republic andvice versa.

Tradebetween the two countries remains modest, about 100 million USD, but both sideshave shown their determination to lift bilateral relations to a new height, hesaid.

Informinghis host about the coming visit to Vietnam by the President of the DominicanRepublic, the ambassador said the visit will be a chance to promotecomprehensive cooperation with Vietnam and its localities.

Onbehalf of the President, the ambassador invited Secretary Dung and leaders of theHanoi People’s Committee to visit his country in the time ahead, adding that hehopes the trip will be an occasion for exploring cooperation potential betweenthe two countries and their capitals./.
