Hanoi aims for 17,000 USD per capita GDP

Hanoi’s per capita GDP is expected to reach between 16,000 and 17,000 USD by 2030, according to the future strategy for Hanoi’s socio-economic development, recently approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

The strategy lays out targets to achieve anannual GDP growth rate of 12-13 percent for the 2011-2020 period, whichwill result in a rise to 7,100 - 7,500 USD per capita by 2020.

The city aims to create high-quality services to internationalstandards within an eco-friendly living environment. To achieve this,the city will modernise and create an integrated urban infrastructure,develop top-quality human resources and speed up administrative reformsfrom 2011 until 2020. The estimated total investment needed to adhere tothe strategy will lie between 3,900 and 4,100 trillion VND (180-190billion USD).

For the 2021-2030 period, the citywill spend around 6,500 – 7,000 trillion VND (300 - 320 billion USD) onintroducing new technologies, developing the workforce, and buildingmodern infrastructure as well as satellite urban areas to take thepressure off core urban areas.

Hanoi will alsogradually apply a model of e-administration in line with the pace ofexpanding e-government nationwide. The capital’s population is forecastto reach 7.9 – 8 million by 2020 and 9.2 million by 2030./.
