Hai Phong: Volume of goods hit 15.48 million tonnes

The total volume of goods passing through ports in the northern city of Hai Phong reached 15.48 million tonnes in the first three months of 2015, up 14.25 percent from the same period last year and representing 23.82 percent of the yearly target.

The Hai Phong Port JointStock Company (JSC) make the largest contributions to the goodstransport volume with about 5.33 million tonnes of goods carried throughthe port.

According to General Director of the Hai Phong PortJSC Nguyen Hung Viet, the port has already been determined a key port inthe northern region and plans to continue improving its servicequality, administrative reform and income for staffs.

In anattempt to enhance port management and logistics service, the Hai PhongPort cooperated with the German development agency GIZ to conduct atraining course for 40 staff members in January 2015 focusing onsustainable port management, information sources and seaportcollaboration, marketing, transportation corridors and regionaldevelopment.

The port has also carried out several projects oninfrastructure, equipment and information technology, including acontainer loading project in the Tan Vu Port and a project to build 6berths, receiving ships with capacities up to 10,000 TEU at the HaiPhong international Port.

In 2015, the Hai Phong Port JSCaims to transport 20 million tonnes of cleared goods and earn roughly1.5 trillion VND (72 million USD).-VNA
