Ha Long-Van Don expressway opens to traffic

Quang Ninh (VNA) - The Ha Long - VanDon expressway was put into operation on February 1, shortening the traveltime from the capital city of Hanoi to Van Don to 2.5 hours from four.

The expressway will also shorten the travel timebetween Ha Long and Van Don to 50 minutes from 90.

The project will connect the economic centres ofHanoi, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh, helping to ease the flow of traffic onNational Highway 18. 

The expressway will boost the socio-economicdevelopment of northeastern Quang Ninh province, a key economic zone of thenorthern region.

The 60km, four-lane road was funded by BOT BienCuong Joint Stock Company with a total investment of about 12 trillion VND (516.6million USD). Construction of the expressway began in September 2015.

The expressway starts at National Highway 18 inthe city of Ha Long’s Dai Yen ưard and ends at the road into Van Don Airport.

Speeds will be limited to 80km per hour and willbe raised to 100km per hour after three months of operation.

According to the investor, there will be fourtoll plazas on the expressway with automatic payment gates.

There will be no toll plaza on the 6km sectionfrom Cam Hai bridge in Cam Pha to Van Don as that stretch of road was builtwith State funds.-VNA
