Global airline alliance expands activities in Indonesia

Some members of Star Alliance have decided to extend their activities in the Indonesian market in the context of growing travel demand from the country’s rising middle class, the Jakarta Post reported.

The newspaper quoted Turkish Airlines Inc. president and CEO Temel Kotilas saying that the carrier plans to raise the number of flights as wellas air routes to Indonesia next year.

Meanwhile, according toTaiwan’s EVA Air Deputy Vice President Jeffrey Chen, the airline mightincrease its flight frequency to a daily basis, from five flights perweek at present from Bali to Taipei.

Air India Chairman Rohit Nandan said that his airline will consider a direct link between Jakarta and New Delhi.

The Star Alliance network was established in 1997 and now has 27members including Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, All Nippon Airway andAir China, which operate a combined more than 18,500 daily flights to1,321 destinations in 193 countries.-VNA
