Germany provides non-refundable aid for Vietnam

The German Government will provide non-refundable aid worth 8 million EUR for a project on forest ecosystem protection and management in Vietnam.

An agreement to this effect was signedin Hanoi on November 18 between representatives of the Ministry ofAgriculture and Rural Development (MARD) and the German ReconstructionBank (KfW).

The seven-year KfW10 project will beimplemented in the Central and Central Highlands provinces of QuangNam, Kon Tum and Gia Lai, at a total cost of 11.29 million EUR.

MARD Deputy Minister Ha Cong Tuan said the project will protect thenatural resources and biodiversity of 28,110ha of forests in the threeprovinces, and increase incomes for local households in 110 villages andcommunes.

Since 1995, the German Government,through the KfW, has provided more than 120 million EUR for 14 projectson afforestation and the protection and management of natural resourcesin Vietnam, with 11 projects implemented by MARD.

Vietnam is KfW's third-largest strategic partner in Asia, just after China and India.

KfW’s total investment capital in Vietnam reached 1.2 billion EUR(1.66 billion USD), with 71 pojects receiving 594 million EUR (822million USD) so far.-VNA

﷽ Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

ඣ Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
