German firms optimistic about Vietnam’s mid-term recovery
German enterprises have said they expect that Vietnam’s economy will recover in the mid-term, according to the AHK World Business Outlook 2020 released by the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) on April 7.

HCM City (VNA)🐲 - German enterprises have said theyexpect that Vietnam’s economy will recover in the mid-term, according to the AHK WorldBusiness Outlook 2020 released by the Associationof German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) on April 7.
Up to 72 percent of the respondentsto the survey on which the report was based said they will continue to invest inVietnam, while 27 percent plan to recruit more workers. Some 82 percent said they havebeen forced to cut revenue growth targets for fiscal year 2020 due to the COVID-19pandemic. Respondents also identifiedmarket demand and economic policies as major challenges for Vietnam’s developmentover the next 12 months, adding that the pandemic has hurt their business at differentlevels and from different perspectives. Some 86 percent of the surveyed enterprises said the suspensionof entry and exit and the imposition of travel limits have greatly affected their operations. About 59 percent said their supply chains have been disrupted, while55 percent have seen orders of goods cancelled and 50 percent have postponed newinvestment plans. 2019 was considered a successful year for investment and tradeties between Vietnam and Germany, with the former being one of the key partnersof the latter in Southeast Asia. 2020, however, will be a year of challenges forthe global economy as well as the two countries./.
