Hanoi (VNA) - Contemporary works and archival materials bythe Gang of Five, a group of the country’s top artists, are beingdisplayed at an exhibition in Hanoi.
The group, including painters Hong Viet Dung, Ha Tri Hieu, Dang Xuan Hoa,Tran Luong and Pham Quang Vinh, hold an esteemed position in the historyof fine art in Vietnam’s post-doi moi (renewal) era. They emerged in theearly 80’s as Vietnam was struggling to rebuild after decades of war.
The exhibition, jointly held by the Art Vietnam Salon Gallery and the JapanFoundation Asia Centre, is being curated by Le Thuan Uyen and is designedto celebrate their achievements and honour their place in Vietnamese arthistory. The exhibition is being held at the Vietnam Feature FilmStudio.
It also includes a collection of archival materials highlighting theiraesthetic development and the unique environment in which they created, saidSuzanne Lecht, Director of the Art Vietnam Salon Gallery, where theoriginal copies of archival materials owned by collectors worldwide will bedisplayed.
The exhibition will be accompanied by weekly curatorial tours that will takevisitors through the exhibition venue, to Art Vietnam Salon Gallery and to theartists’ studios.

A catalog of the exhibition sponsored by the Hanoi Goethe Institute and ThingsAsianPress Hong Kong will be available by the end of the year.
“Known for creating bold, distinctive works, depicting personal conceptionsthat departed from the socialist realist imposition of the previous generationof artists, they began to gain attention and started exhibiting abroad in theearly 90’s,” said Lecht.
Their first joint exhibition was in 1990, and they adopted the name Gangof Five in a 1993 exhibition.
Invitations to exhibit abroad in Hong Kong, the Netherlands, and in New York quicklyfollowed as the world recognised the emergence of a culture previously hiddenfrom world view.

An art exhibition featuring the beauty of of Hanoi kicked off in the capital on October 7, on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the city’s Liberation Day (October 10).
An exhibition of paintings by female members of the Tranh Viet Club opened in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the 87th anniversary of Vietnamese Women’s Day on October 20.
A standout feature this year is “Manga Fest 2025”, showcasing celebrated comic titles and also offering author meet-and-greets, cosplay performances, and other interactive activities.
The programme featured a range of activities, including group practice sessions of the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP), Vietnamese–Indian cultural performances, a commemorative flag handover ceremony for clubs, and a beach clean-up to help protect the marine environment.
This year’s tournament has gathered over 300 coaches, athletes, and referees from 18 countries and territories, competing in 28 combat weight categories and eight performance categories. Vietnam’s team has 50 athletes, including six from Thai Nguyen province.
It is the first time that the country is to hold a G1-level tournament which is expected to lure more than 100 athletes of 15 countries and regions at Go Vap Gymnasium.

The exhibition showcases more than 100 valuable documents and artifacts, divided into two main parts: “Journalist Nguyen Ai Quoc – Ho Chi Minh” and “President Ho Chi Minh – Founder and Mentor of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.” This is an opportunity to recall the late leader’s journalism journey and affirm his exceptional role in founding and guiding the revolutionary press in Vietnam.
For the first time, the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) has granted Vietnam hosting rights for the two championships, including the Asian women’s solo category, which debuts this year as an officially recognised event.
Eight teams will join the tournament, divided into two groups. Group A features Vietnam, the Philippines, Sichuan Club (China), and Australia, while Group B consists of Vietnam U21, Korabelka Club (Russia), Taiwan (China), and U21 Thailand.
