In the communiqué, G7 leaders emphasised the need to maintain arules-based order in the maritime domain on the basis of internationallaw, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of theSea.
“We are concerned by tensions in the Eastand South Chine Seas. We underline the importance of peaceful disputesettlement as well as free and unimpeded lawful use of the world’soceans,” they said.
The leaders also affirmedthat they strongly oppose the “use of intimidation, coercion or force,as well as any unilateral actions that seek to change the status quo,such as large-scale land reclamation”.-VNA
