The Ministry of Public Security announced onApril 27 that the move is part of the investigation of the case of “abusingposition and power to appropriate assets” at the Binh Son Refining andPetrochemical Co. Ltd and the Ocean Commercial Joint Stock Bank (OceanBank).The case is directly monitored by the Central Steering Committee forAnti-Corruption.
Basing on the investigation outcomes, theinvestigation police agency issued on April 27 decisions on the prosecution andarrest of Tung along with a search warrant on the charge, under Article 355 ofthe 2015 Penal Code.

The Hanoi People’s Court on March 29 handed down an 18-year jail sentence to Dinh La Thang, former Chairman of the Member Council of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), for “deliberately violating State regulations on economic management, causing severe consequences.”
Phan Van Vinh, former Lieutenant General and former Director General of the Police General Department under the Ministry of Public Security (MoPS), has been taken into custody for the charge of “abusing position and power while performing duties” relating to a major online gambling ring.
Dinh La Thang, former Chairman of the Member Council of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), who involved in the notorious OceanBank case, has submitted his written appeal asking the Hanoi People’s Court for reconsidering his charge, penalty and civil responsibility.
The High-Level People’s Court in Hanoi began to hear the appeals of Ha Van Tham, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ocean Commercial Joint Stock Bank (OceanBank), and his accomplices for their wrongdoings at the bank.
The Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC)’s Inspection Commission has proposed imposing the highest disciplinary measure against Dinh La Thang, member of the CPVCC and Vice Chairman of the CPVCC’s Commission for Economic Affairs.
