Hanoi (VNA) – Rosmah Mansor, former Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak’s wife, hasbeen questioned by anti-corruption investigators over a corruption probe atstate fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Rosmah arrived atthe Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters around onSeptember 25 for the second time.
Her first round ofquestioning in June lasted three hours. Last week, an MACC official said morecharges could be brought against individuals over 1MDB.
Rosmah, 66, has longbeen in the public eye for flaunting a range of Hermes Birkin handbags andshowy jewellery, and spending thousands of dollars in shopping sprees aroundthe world.
Malaysian policeseized a large amount of money, jewelries and hand bags of famous brands worth273 million USD at houses related to Najib.
Najib founded the1MDB investment fund in 2009, supposedly to serve Malaysia’s developmentthrough global partnerships and foreign direct investment.
However, it becamethe centre of a money laundering scandal, allegedly causing losses of up to 3.7billion USD and leading to probes into the financial markets in severalcountries such as the US, Switzerland, Singapore, Malaysia and China.
The former PM wasaccused last week with total 25 charges, including four counts of abuse ofpower, involving in 2.3 billion ringgit (556.3 million USD), and 21 counts ofmoney laundering. But he rejected all the charges.
Since his failure inMay this year, Najib has faced seven accusations related to the 1MDB, includingmoney laundry, irresponsibility and power abuse.
He was charged withthree counts of criminal breach of trust in his former posts as a primeminister and minister of finance, in association with the transfer of 42million ringgit, or 10 million USD, from SRC International Sdn Bhd to hispersonal bank accounts between August 2011 and March 2015. He then receivedthree more accusations related to money laundry.
Najib was releasedafter paying a bail amount of 250,000 USD.-VNA
