Hanoi (VNA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son hosted areception in Hanoi on October 3 for UK Secretary of State for Scotland AlisterJack.

At the meeting, Son proposed the two countries continuestepping up delegation exchanges, effectively implementing bilateralcooperation mechanisms, maintaining close cooperation at multilateral forums,and encouraging UK enterprises, including those from Scotland, to invest infinance, science-technology, innovation, green transformation and energytransition in Vietnam.

He congratulated the UK on officially joining the Comprehensiveand Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and appreciatedits role in promoting the building of the Just Energy Transition Partnershipframework between Vietnam and international partners. He suggested the UKcontinue to support Vietnam in building institutions and policies; boost humanresources training and technology transfer in the process of greentransformation and sustainable development; and strengthen collaboration in educationand training, including joint training cooperation with Scottish universities.

Agreeing with the Vietnamese minister’s proposals, AlisterJack affirmed that the UK will maintain support for Vietnam to respond toclimate change and develop renewable energy and green finance.

Vietnam is an important partner of the UK in the region andthe two countries have high political trust, he added.

Regarding the East Sea issue, the two ministers agreed thatensuring security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the seaplays an important role for peace and prosperous development of the region andthe world; and that all disputes need to be solved peacefully through dialogues,and on the basis of compliance with international law, especially the UnitedNations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982./.
