Flight delays, cancellations slightly increase in 11 months

The numbers of delayed and cancelled flights of domestic carriers were 36,844 and 1,605 in the past 11 months, up 0.6 points and 0.2 points, respectively from the same period last year.

Hanoi (VNA) – The numbers ofdelayed and cancelled flights of domestic carriers were 36,844 and 1,605,accounting for 16.1 percent and 0.7 percent of the total flights, up 0.6 pointand 0.2 point, respectively from the same period last year, according to the Civil Aviation Administrationof Vietnam (CAAV).

Among the four carriers (Vietnam Airlines,Vietjet, Jetstar Pacific and VASCO), low-cost airlines Vietjet and JetstarPacfic recorded a year-on-year fall of 1.1 point in delays, accounting for 16.4percent and 19.5 percent of total flights, respectively.

However, the rate of cancelled flights of Vietjetremained unchanged at 0.3 percent in the reviewed period, while that of JetstarPacific at 1.3 percent, an increase of 0.6 point.

The national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines,also saw an increase in delays and cancellations by 2 and 0.1 points,respectively, from the same period last year, or 16.1 percent and 0.7 percentof its total flights.

The newcomer VASCO reported the delay and cancellation rates of 16.1 percentand 0.7 percent, up 0.6 point and 0.2 point, respectively.

According to CAAV, Vietnamese carriersconducted more than 228,000 flights in the 11 months of this year,up nearly 37,000 flights year-on-year. The rate of delays and cancellationsincreased by 0.8 point, much lower than the growth of flights.

The airlines have made numerous efforts tobetter serve their passengers by reducing the rate of delays and cancellationsin the context of airports’ limited infrastructure, particularly at the Tan SonNhat international airport.-VNA
