A flag raising ceremony was held at the office of the Lao Foreign Ministry in Vientiane capital on August 10 to mark the 51st founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Vientiane (VNA) – ꦅA flag raising ceremony was held at the office of the Lao ForeignMinistry in Vientiane capital on August 10 to mark the 51st foundinganniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The eventwas chaired by Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith, and attendedby ASEAN and dialogue partners’ ambassadors in Laos, along with representativesfrom international organisations.

Addressingthe ceremony, Minister Kommasith recalled achievements of ASEAN in over half acentury, affirming that the organisation and ASEAN Community will work tomaintain peace, stability amid difficulties and challenges. He addedthat cooperation between countries members as well as between ASEAN and internationalfriends and dialogue partners has been strengthened over the years. ASEAN isamong highly-achieving regional organisations of the world and playingimportant role in the open,inclusive and ASEAN-centred regional architecture, the minister noted. He took the occasion to thank ASEAN members,the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre),dialogue partners, as well as international friends and organisations for theirhelp to Laos in overcoming the consequences of the recent dam collapse inAttapeu province.-VNA
