Hanoi (VNA) - Five Vietnamese female scientists were granted the 2017L'Oreal-UNESCO awards at a ceremony in Hanoi on January 12.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoai, Dean of theFaculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine under the Hue University of Medicine andPharmacy; and Dr. Tran Thi Ngoc Dung, head of the Department forEnvironmentally Friendly Technology of the Institute of Environment Technologyunder the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology won the L'Oreal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science.
Meanwhile, three youngfemale scientists received the L’Oreal National Fellowship for Women inScience. They are Dr. Tran Phuong Thao from the Hanoi University of Pharmacy;Dr. Hoang Thi Dong Quy from the University of Science – Vietnam NationalUniversity Ho Chi Minh City; and Dr. Nguyen Thi Le Thu from the University ofTechnology – Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.
The awardeeshave made contributions to the community health by seeking new medicinalmaterials for treatment of cancer and Alzheimer diseases, and studying newmaterials to produce smart silicon applicable for implanting and fire-proofpolymer nanocomposite used in construction and transport.
Theawards were granted by the For Women in Science Programme, launched by theL’Oreal Group and UNESCO in 1998.
TheL'Oreal-UNESCO partnership is a long-term commitment to recognising women inscience and supporting scientific vocations.
The Women in Science has grown into a globalprogramme that includes international, regional and national fellowships, andan international network of more than 2,000 women in more than 100countries.-VNA

Five Vietnamese female scientists have won scholarships worth 150 million VND (6,690 USD) each under the L’Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme.
