First Vietnamese language skill test held in Japan

Tokyo (VNA) – Nearly 400 Japanesecandidates at different ages attended the first national level Vietnameselanguage skill test held in Tokyo, Japan on June 25.

The test, hosted by the Southeast Asianlinguistics exchange and universalisation society in Japan has seven levels. Certificateswill be given to those who pass the first six levels.

Chairman of the examination board YanagisawaYoshio said it took two years to prepare the test.

Ise Yoji from the Japan College of ForeignLanguages said one of the reasons for the organisation of the test is that Vietnamhas an important position in Southeast Asia and will be a developed nation inthe future.

In addition, more Japanese students are lookingto Vietnam as a destination for study, hence the need to learn Vietnamese, hesaid.

According to Ise, the number of Japanesestudents in Vietnam will increase strongly in the next three or four years, andnext Vietnamese skill tests can attract up to thousands of people.

Pham Quang Hung, First Secretary in chargeeducation affairs at the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan, underlined the growing tiesbetween Vietnam and Japan in all fields, particularly via the investmentJapanese enterprises have made in Vietnam.

Demand to learn Vietnamese in Japan is growing,Hung said, adding that this shows the strong people-to-people exchanges betweenthe two nations.
