– The first NationalForum on Developing Vietnam Technology Companies opened in Hanoi on May 9, withthe attendance of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Themed “Aspiration, Vision and Strategyfor a Prosperous Vietnam” and with the action slogan of “Make in Vietnam,” theforum aims to build up a community of Vietnamese technological companies.

It is expected to turn domestictechnological firms into momentum to create economic breakthroughs, thushelping Vietnam escape from the middle-income trap and become a developednation.

The forum brought together about 1,000delegates representing the Government, ministries, agencies and localities,along with hundreds of domestic and foreign experts and businesspeople in thefield of technology.

They are discussing a range of issuessuch as technology-related problems in Vietnam, how to move out of themiddle-income trap, policies and solutions to develop Vietnamese technological firms,and solutions to connect them with organisations and enterprises operating inother economic sectors like agriculture, health care and public services.

Before the opening ceremony of theforum, PM Phuc and other delegates visited an exhibition displaying Vietnamese technologicalproducts in different spheres.

Last year,the information-technology sector gained some 98.9 billion USD in revenue, 94billion USD of which came from export activities, and enjoyed a trade surplusof some 26 billion USD.

Besides contributing nearly 50 trillion VND(2.16 billion USD) to the state budget, the sector also created more than 1million jobs for local workers, Deputy Minister of Information andCommunications Phan Tam said at a press conference in Hanoi on May 6.-VNA

PM calls for cooperation with S♉weden in nuclear energy technology

The PM revealed Vietnam’s plan to develop nuclear power in the near future, and called on the Swedish side to assist Vietnam in developing and refining legal and policy frameworks for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes; training and developing human resources; ensuring nuclear safety; and conducting training and drills to improve incident management capabilities.
