Finnish quintet offers free concerts in Hanoi

The Quintet of the Seinajoki City Orchestra will perform Finnish and Vietnamese music at free concerts in Hanoi on December 5 and 7.
Hanoi (VNS/VNA) – The Quintet of the Seinajoki City Orchestra will performFinnish and Vietnamese music at free concerts in Hanoi on December 5 and 7.

At the two concerts, the Pohjanmaa Quintet will also play with Vietnamesemusicians from the Hanoi Arts School.

The Pohjanmaa Quintet is Finland’s only regular wind quintet with the sameconfiguration. It was founded in 1991 as part of the orchestra which is knownnot only for tango music but also as a classical orchestra in SouthOstrobothnia.

The orchestra has had concerts not only in its homeland of Finland but also inGermany, Russia, Hungary, Spain, Italy, Chile and Vietnam.

Taking place at Cong Nhan (Worker) Theatre, 42 Trang Tien street, on December 5 evening, the concert will feature Finnish music by composers Jean Sibellius,Joonas Kokkhonen, Atso Almila and Lauri Toivio. In addition, threeOstrobothnian folk songs which were arranged by Jouko Vijanen for the quintetwill be played.

Entitled Mua Dong Phong Bac (Winter from the North), the second concert onDecember 7 will be held at the Hanoi Arts School, 7 Hai Ba Trung street.Highlight of the concert will be a performance by the quintet and the school’straditional musicians. They will play folk song Trong Com from northern Vietnam.

The concerts are held by the Hanoi People’s Committee, South OstronothniaRegion, the Finnish Embassy and Asia Renko to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Finland-Vietnam diplomatic ties and the 10th year ofHanoi - South Ostronothnia friendship.

They are free for music lovers who are interested in Finnish music. Seating isavailable on a first come, first served basis.-VNA
