New Delhi (VNA)- The Centre for Vietnam Studies under the Institute of Social Sciences (ISS)coordinated with the Embassy of Vietnam in India to screen the movie “I See YellowFlowers on the Green Grass” on July 10 to bring Vietnamese culture closer to itsIndian friends.

Attending the screening ceremony were VietnameseAmbassador to India Ton Sinh Thanh, Secretary General of the InternationalChamber of the Media and Entertainment Industry Ashok Tyagi, Director of theISS Ash Narain Roy, Director of the Centre for Vietnam Studies Sonu Trivedi, aswell as numerous students.

Based on the novel by best-selling author NguyenNhat Anh, the film, directed by Vietnamese-American Victor Vu, is set in themid-1980s in a small village, telling the story of two young brothers who shareeverything, but compete for the affection of a girl.

It has won a number of domestic andinternational prizes, including the “Best Film” title at the TFF KidsInternational Film Festival 2016 and the reputable “Bong Sen Vang” (GoldenLotus) prize at the 19th Vietnam Film Festival in 2015. The movie also baggedthe “Best Film” award at the second Silk Road International Film Festival.

The screening of the film was initiated by theCentre for Vietnam Studies, aiming to enhance cultural relations andpeople-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and India.

It also looks to develop the bilateralcooperation in art and culture and increase mutual understanding.

According to Narain Roy, movies areindispensable parts of culture as they reflect social situations in eachsociety. Screening movies is one of the most effective ways to introduce eachother’s cultures to Vietnamese and Indian people, he added.

For his part, Ambassador Ton Sinh Thanh said hehopes the movie will help Indian viewers understand more about the Vietnamesenation and people.

He voiced his support for the Centre for VietnamStudies to host research activities and workshops highlighting Vietnam-Indiarelations and cultural events.

Ashok Tyagi said movies help transfer art andculture between countries around the world.

Sonu Trivedi suggested enhancing culturalexchanges between Vietnam and India through promoting cooperation in the cinemaindustry. -VNA
