Festival marks Trung sisters’ uprising

A festival to celebrate the 1973 rd anniversary of Trung sisters’ uprising (40 AD) against northern invaders was held at their temple, Dong Nhan ward, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi on March 17.
A festival to celebrate the 1973rd anniversary of Trung sisters’ uprising (40 AD) against northerninvaders was held at their temple, Dong Nhan ward, Hai Ba Trungdistrict, Hanoi on March 17 (the sixth day of the second lunar month).  The event was started with a stage performance on the uprisingand an offering of incense to commemorate the two famous sisters, TrungTrac and Trung Nhi. 
Cultural and sport activities such asmartial arts performances, calligraphy and folk songs were alsoorganised during the festival.  The sisters led a revoltagainst northern dominators and regained independence for the countryand Trung Trac established herself as the ruler of an independent state,becoming the first female leader in the nation’s history.-VNA
