Farmers with excellent achievements to be honoured
The Vietnam Farmers’ Union (VFU) Central Committee on October 5 announced the list of 63 excellent farmers in 2017 and 24 typical individuals in agricultural production during the country’s three-decade reform process.

Hanoi (VNA)– The Vietnam Farmers’ Union (VFU) Central Committee on October 5 announced thelist of 63 excellent farmers in 2017 and 24 typical individuals in agriculturalproduction during the country’s three-decade reform process.
At a press conference in Hanoi, Vice Chairman ofthe VFU Central Committee Pham Tien Nam said the excellent farmers are thosewho have reaped the most outstanding achievements in agricultural productionand business, building new-style rural areas, and protecting national securityand sovereignty.
They also include farmers with scientificinitiatives and inventions which have been applied and brought in economic andsocial benefits in agricultural production.
The 63 excellent farmers were selected from 137candidates nominated by 63 provinces and cities nationwide, he noted.
Meanwhile, the 24 typical individuals of the Doimoi (reform) period are farmers or businesspersons who used to be farmers achievingprominent accomplishments in the spheres related to agriculture, farmers andrural areas over the last 30 years.
A TV programme named “Pride of VietnameseFarmers”, the fifth of its kind so far, will be held in Hanoi and broadcastlive on VTV1 channel on October 14 evening to honour the excellent farmers and individuals.

The central province of Thua Thien-Hue plans to zone off an additional 5,500 hectares of large-scale fields to meet the target of cultivating 51,000-52,000 hectares of rice per year by 2020.
Tien Giang has replaced rice by fruit trees in over 2,300ha of land since the start of the year, said Cao Van Hoa, Acting Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The Vietnam Farmers’ Union (VFU) and German Farmers’ Association (DBV) held a workshop in Hanoi on October 4 to share experience in developing value chains in agricultural production.
According to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRC), this year’s campaign provided long-term aid for 3,785 individuals and organisations. Support included houses, clean water systems, school meal facilities, books, and livelihood assistance, with a total value of more than 118 billion VND.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government. It has fulfilled five specific objectives and five five-year goals, and met nine out of 12 indicators related to addressing basic social service shortages.

At a review conference held on June 21, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh praised the province’s scientific, coordinated, and flexible approach.
