Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development suggested the Government issue a resolution on supporting farmers to recover production as Typhoon Yagi has left devastation for the livestock, fishery and poultry sectors, Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien has said.

In a recent interview granted to the Vietnam New Agency, Tien said farming households across the nation have lost from tens to hundreds of billions of VND due to the super typhoon, highlighting large investment in livestock and fishery farming systems.

The deputy minister will have meetings with localities, enterprises, and business associations on support measures regarding techniques, breeding animals, production materials, and animal food, among others, he said, adding the ministry has proposed the Government extend debt payment deadline, provide specific assistance for typhoon-hit businesses, cooperatives and households, and handle insurance issues so that they could recover production at the earliest to ensure sufficient food supply for the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) Festival.

According to Tien, Typhoon Yagi and its subsequent downpours and ✨floods cost the fishery sector some 2.5 trillion VND (101.7 million USD), and livestock around 2 trillion VND. The Ministry of Planning and Investment estimated agricultural growth may decrease by 0.33% this year./.
