Exhibition showcases works by women artists

A collection of 105 art works by 102 women artists are on display at the HCM City Fine Arts Association.

HCM City (VNS/VNA) - Acollection of 105 art works by 102 women artists are on display at the HCM CityFine Arts Association.

The exhibition titled Xuan (Spring) includes paintings and sculptures indifferent media, including oil, acrylic, water colour, lacquer and pottery.

The works’ themes are about landscape, lifestyle, people, portrait and flowers,created by veteran and young artists from the association and the HCM CityUniversity of Fine Arts.

Nguyen Thi Tam of the association, 82, best known for her paintings of lotusesand the country’s landscapes, is displaying Nam Moi (New Year) featuringimages of pink cherry blossoms in the sun.

Tam, a native of the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang, graduated in oilpainting from the Gia Dinh Fine Arts College in 1958. She has taken part in 20solo and group exhibitions in Vietnam, France, the US and Germany, amongothers.

Dang Ai Viet introduces her still painting called Hoa Xuan (Flowers ofSpring) which includes a vase of a bunch of lilies in bright colours of red,orange and yellow.

The 71-year-old Viet spent all her life travelling from HCM City to Hanoi topaint portraits of Vietnamese Heroic Mother. Her paintings have been exhibitedacross Vietnam.

Veteran artists of the association like Viet Kim Quyen and Tran Thuy Linh arealso showcasing their paintings along with young artists from the universityNguyen Tri Minh Thu and Lu Thi Bao Ngoc.

Thu’s oil painting is of a beautiful and modern woman called She, whileNgoc’s ceramic sculpture featured a young woman called Chi Gai O Thon (Sisterin the Countryside).

Visitor Le Van Tien of District 3 said: “The exhibition is a chance to knowmore about women and their spirit through beautiful paintings and sculpture. Iadmire their talents.”

The exhibition runs until March 16. The association is at 218A Pasteur Streetin District 3.-VNS/VNA
