Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – An exhibition on imperial workshops under the Nguyen Dynastyis underway in the former imperial city of Hue, the central province of ThuaThien-Hue as part of the Hue TraditionalCraft Festival 2019.

Theevent was opened on April 25 by the HueMonuments Conservation Centre.

Since 1885, due to socio-political impacts, the number of imperial workshopswas reduced, just enough to meet the demand of the royal family in somefields with very limited scale. But professional skills and know-how continuedto be transferred by the artisans to apprentices, which was one of thefactors that helped traditional handicraft continue to develop, contributingto diversifying industries and products in the traditional craft villages inHue and other localities in the country.

The exhibition not only brings an opportunity for visitors to admirethe royal objects, with a large variety of types, styles and sophisticated decorativepatterns, but also helps the public and tourists understand better about theorganisational structure, operating method and operation of the imperial workshopsystem under the Nguyen Dynasty.

💙 The HueMonuments Conservation Centre also cooperated with the National Archives Centre I to open anexhibition named ‘Imperial workshops under Nguyen’s Dynasty as seen fromthe Chau Ban (Imperial archives) – the Documentary Heritagein the Memory of the World’ at the Dai Noi (Royal Palace), Hue city, on April25.

On display are nearly 50 Chau Ban describing theactivities of units belonging to the imperial workshop system under theNguyen Dynasty in the process of preparing materials, labour and productionorganisation for such products as furniture, coins, boats, weapons andconstruction materials.
