European language festival to be held in Hanoi

Hanoi (VNA) – A European language festival in Hanoi will allowvisitors to learn English, French, German, Italian and Spanish as well as the culturaldiversity of the continent.

The Day of European Languages, themed ‘Internationalisation: Challenges andOpportunities for School in Vietnam’, will be held on October 21 by theEuropean Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) members including theUK, Germany, Spain, France, Italy and Wallonia in Belgium. 

The event consists of two parts. In the morning, representatives of the sixorganising EUNIC institutions and the Ministry of Education and Training willhighlight opportunities and challenges for schools in Vietnam to enhanceinternational contact.

The morning session provides a fantastic opportunity for up to 120 experts onteaching foreign languages, lecturers and teachers to listen to talks byinternational speakers.

The representatives, lecturers and teachers will also present and discuss theirexperience.

In the afternoon, the festival will open to anyone interested in Europeanlanguages. Students, parents and anyone interested in languages and culturewill be able to learn new languages in classrooms through games. Trial classeswill be offered to enable participants to learn some words in English, French,German, Italian and Spanish.

Additionally, model lessons and information on the participating countries willbe offered, focusing on their languages and cultures.

‘Speak-dating’ will also be at the event - a format to get in touch withdifferent languages quickly. Four short films will be shown featuring thecountries, landscapes, cuisines and peoples of Italy, Brussels, Spain andGermany.

There will also be a quiz offering prizes, including scholarships for intensivelanguage courses, t-shirts, caps, books, and much more.

The seventh Day of European Languages offers unique exchange opportunities forall those interested in language, culture, international exchange andexperience.

"The theme this year is not quite new but it is a trend meeting the demandof foreign language studying," said Wilfried Eckstein, director of GoetheInstitute which hosts the event.

"Through the day all organising members wish to have more friends andcounterparts as well. Languages help to connect Vietnamese young people withthe world."

No registration is required for the afternoon portion of the festival, withentrance to all events free.-VNA
