EPC contract signed for central major power plant

An engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract was signed in the central province of Binh Thuan on March 25 for the Vinh Tan 1 thermal power plant, a main facility in the Vinh Tan Power Centre.

Signatories include investors of the over-2-billion-USD project and itscontractors GEDI and GPEC of China’s Power International Holding Co.,Ltd.

The investors are the Phuong Nam ElectricityCo.,Ltd., China’s Power International Holding Co., Ltd, and theVietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group.

Thetwo-turbine plant with a combined capacity of 1,200MW, part of thecountry’s largest coal-fired complex, is expected to start operation by2018 and generate over 7 billion kWh for the national grid on an annualbasis, helping ease the power shortage in the south.

It will be transferred to Vietnam after 25 years of its commercial operation.-VNA

The PM revealed Vietnam’s plan to develop nuclear power in the near future, and called on the Swedish side to assist Vietnam in developing and refining legal and policy frameworks for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes; training and developing human resources; ensuring nuclear safety; and conducting training and drills to improve incident management capabilities.
