Environment ministry eyes tackling transport pollution

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has proposed support policies to encourage environmentally-friendly means of transport which run on electric engines and use renewable fuels.

Hanoi (VNA) - The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has proposedsupport policies to encourage environmentally-friendly means of transportwhich run on electric engines and use renewable fuels.

The proposal which aims to control air pollution and reduce greenhouse gasemissions has been submitted to the Government for consideration.

It was made following the ministry’s study on international experience inmanaging environmentally-friendly means of transport.

The ministry has submitted to the Government reports on air pollution andgreenhouse gas emissions in Vietnam, and development of electric means oftransport.

To better manage air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions discharged bymeans of transport, the ministry proposed the Government consider and submitthe draft amended law on environmental protection to the National Assembly forapproval.

The ministry also proposed the issuance of a Government resolution oncontrolling air pollution. The solutions include launching policies andassistance to encourage environmentally-friendly means of transport and the useof renewable fuels.

The Ministry of Transport is in charge of working with relevant agencies tobuild and implement the strategy on developing environmentally-friendly meansof transport.

The Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment areresponsible for adding environmentally-friendly means of transport to the listof vehicles enjoying tax preferential policies for imported automobilecomponents.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will work with relevantagencies on national technical standards on emissions and timeline of thestandard application different types of vehicles.

The ministry will issue criteria for environmentally-friendly means oftransport and plan to retrieve and recycle batteries from electric vehicles./.

Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to 🌳monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

Vie🧸tnam ramps up plastic ღwaste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
