HCM City (VNA) – More than 38 billionVND (1.63 million USD) has been raised to support 60 students of ethnicminority groups, sea and island areas as a result of an agreement signedbetween enterprises and the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund in Ho Chi Minh City onJune 11.
Former Vice President Truong My Hoa, Chairwomanof the fund, said with the engagement of the whole society, especiallysponsors, the fund and its expanded projects will come to far-flung areas aswell ethnic minority groups to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Director of the fund Nguyen Duc Quang said thefund has received a total of 373 billion VND from 5,000 sponsors over the pasttime.
Each year, it presents 8,000 scholarships tounderprivileged students belonging to the ethnic minority, and sea and islandareas.
Since 2009, the fund has honoured 127outstanding individuals and 71 collectives from 36 out of the 54 ethnic groupsnationwide.
It has also expanded projects to build 146 houses,29 bridges, 16 schools, and six roads for needy people across the country.-VNA
A meeting was held in Hanoi on February 27 to review Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund’s activities in 2017 and embark on its working programme for this year.
The Vu A Dinh scholarship fund, established in 1999, aims to support ethnic minority students from poor families who achieve outstanding academic performances, said former State Vice President and Chairwoman of the fund Truong My Hoa.
“We are making efforts to give ethnic minority students bigger scholarships so they can cover living expense, study well and become good citizens,” said President of Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund.
The Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund presented scholarships to 15 outstanding ethnic students nationwide, who had excellent academic performance during 2017-2018 academic year, at a ceremony held in Ho Chi Minh City on June 16.
The Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund presented scholarships to poor ethnic minority students with outstanding learning performances in the southern province of Dong Nai on July 4.

A hub for sharing best practices, the event aims to forge solutions for financial sustainability, public media contracts, audience engagement, content innovation, and newsroom restructuring. It is also a moment for Vietnam’s media to accelerate its progress and figure out what the “revolutionary press” means in a new era.
From “Thanh nien”, Vietnam’s first revolutionary newspaper founded by Nguyen Ai Quoc (later President Ho Chi Minh) on June 21, 1925, the revolutionary press has remained devoted to its sacred missions -accompanying the nation, serving the Fatherland, and working for the people.
