Embassy ready to evacuate Vietnamese people from Russia’ Kursk region if needed: official

The Vietnamese Embassy in Russia is ready to evacuate people from areas bordering Ukraine in Russia’s Kursk oblast to safe places if needed, said Counselor Vu Xuan Viet, head of the Consular Division and deputy head of the Community Affairs Board of the embassy on August 11.

Moscow (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Russia is ready to evacuate people from areas bordering Ukraine in Russia’s Kursk oblast to safe places if needed, said Counselor Vu Xuan Viet, head of the Consular Division and deputy head of the Community Affairs Board of the embassy on August 11.

Viet said that in the context of the complicated conflicts in Kursk, the embassy maintains daily phone contact with the Vietnamese Association in the region to monitor the situation and guide people on how to respond to any emergency.

Hoang Thi Mai Huong, 30, who runs a business at Pokrovsky market which is also known as Vietnamese market in Kursk city, said that in the last few days, people in the city have hardly gone to the market to buy goods.

The city has been devastated by drone and missile attacks, she said, adding that her family is considering moving to another city if the situation gets worse.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Quang Dao, who has lived in Kursk city for a long time, said that there are about 140 Vietnamese people in Kursk oblast, of them 100 working at two garment companies named “Hoa Sen and "Ha Noi" in Zheleznogorsk city, more than 100km from the border.

Currently, the situation of Vietnamese people in the city remains stable, he said, noting that if the situation becomes more tense, they will consider evacuating to safe places.
